About Island Travel Dad

Welcome to Island Travel Dad!

McNabb's Corn Maze, Cedar, BC

Thanks so much for visiting! My name’s Michael, a transplanted Vancouver Islander who absolutely loves where I live. And that’s the main reason I’ve created this blog, Island Travel Dad.

I’ve been living on Vancouver Island since 2005, when my wife Heather and I decided this was where we wanted to raise our new family. Our son Zachary was born here 4 months after we moved over, and it’s been an amazing ride since!

So Much to Discover

For 13 years, we’ve been exploring as a family, up and down this remarkably diverse rock off the West Coast of Canada, and we’re always amazed by what Vancouver Island has to offer. If you’ve never been here, and you have children, you have to put us on your itinerary. And if you’re an active family like ours, that enjoys getting out and exploring the outdoors and all that the natural world has to offer, you will absolutely LOVE Vancouver Island!

Now that you’ve found Island Travel Dad, I hope you’ll stick around a bit, and keep coming back for fresh, new content. I’ll always present my blog posts from a family perspective. Showing you what’s great about our Island as a family makes it so much more meaningful and relevant for you and other families just like you. If you love to travel as a family, then I’ll keep you engaged.

My goal isn’t to present you with a bunch of options for places to see and do when you’re here. Therefore I’m not going to feed you all the same warmed-over articles from the tons of Vancouver Island travel sites. Instead, what you’ll get from me is insight; what works and what doesn’t. Little nuggets of information that turn an interesting destination or activity into a must-see visit.

Not Your Average Travel Site

I’ll show you what to do and what to avoid, with straightforward guidance based on our own experience. Additionally, I’ll include directions, times, prices and contacts, so you won’t be left with searching through other websites for the nitty-gritty.

Vancouver Island has so much to offer visually, so you’ll find lots of videos, especially videos of our excursions, activities and destinations. Not every post will have a video, but some will be just videos. And, as always, they’ll have a strong family focus. I might even get the kids involved in creating some of their own travel videos…

My family and I look forward to having you along for the journey as we explore Vancouver Island together. I hope you’ll come by often and connect with us. And please feel free to share your own ideas of what you’d like to see on this blog. I’d also love to hear about your own family experiences on Vancouver Island.

Finally, please drop us a line in the contact form below. If you’re a resident of the Island, I’m excited to share ideas and activities with you. And if you are a visitor to our beautiful shores, Welcome! We can’t wait to show you what we’ve got!
